Philippine Legislators in Las Vegas just to watch Pacquiao
THE plenary deliberations on proposals to amend the Constitution will take the backseat for a while at the House of Representatives as congressmen are set to take Las Vegas by storm to watch the Manny Pacquiao-Ricky Hatton megabout on Sunday.
The House is still in the process of deliberations on Resolution 737, which seeks to amend the 1987 Constitution to lift the ban on foreign ownership of land through the ordinary process of legislation by a three-fourths vote, with the House and the Senate voting separately.
About 50 congressmen, including House Speaker Prospero Nograles, will reportedly be in Las Vegas for the match. Being a native of Mindanao and member of Team Pacquiao, Nograles said he has never missed any fight of the Filipino boxing great, along with his sons.
"So what," one may say. Although they say national budget doesn’t pay for this, how can we so sure when our leaders are that crooked? Well, nice seats could cost anywhere between $1,000 to $8,000. Add hotel and airfare charges on top of that and you get a bill large enough to make squinted eyes pop out in surprise. Hmm, how can a public servant of honest means dish out that kind of cash?
